Still Water Fly Fishing Locations
Two lakes of with an excellent reputation and a mile or so of the River Avon. Set nicely in the country and fishes well. A family-run fishery located in rural Wiltshire – not far from Stonehenge. There are two large clear water lakes and the adjoining River Avon for you to explore, as well as facilities with disabled access.
Three crystal-clear lakes and a carrier stretch of the world-renowned River Itchen chalk stream are Avington Trout Fishery’s trademarks. So too are the fish on offer. Superb quality rainbow trout are stocked into the lakes, while the carrier stream holds wild browns and grayling. Cost here reflects the strong reputation for big fish, high average weight and stalking, so keep this one as a treat.
Recently Under New Management The fishery is situated in an attractive woodland valley on the Duke of Norfolk’s Estate at Arundel, West Sussex. Although only a few minutes from the centre of the town, with its distant view of the cathedral, it provides an ideal and tranquil venue for fly fishing.
They aim to provide the highest quality in still-water fly fishing for trout, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The lakes are stocked daily with brown and rainbow trout reared on their own fish farm. Average fish size ranges from 2–5 lbs with a generous number of fish into double figures. The stocking rates are designed to give everybody an excellent, yet challenging, day’s fishing and this results in the average weekly catch rate usually in the region of 80% and above.
Chiphall Lake is situated in the Meon Valley close to the A32 and adjacent to the River Meon. The trout fishery is well stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and also has some Golden Trout. Chiphall is set in a quiet location surrounded by trees. The lake is an idyllic location to enjoy a day’s fly fishing.
Holbury Lakes fishery is in a secluded, tranquil setting where the River Dun winds between the four lakes. Each lake has its own characteristics and offers great scope, and so the fly fishing is always exciting, whatever your experience. Throughout the summer months the water clarity in the lakes is usually very good, although they can become coloured in winter when rainfall is persistent. The lakes are predominantly stocked with Rainbow Trout and Blue Trout, with wild Brown Trout found in the river.
Situated on the outskirts of King Somborne in the Test Valley, just 200 yards from the River Test, the fishery enjoys all the natural fly life from the river, especially the May Fly hatch. John O Gaunt’s fishery offers great fly fishing in the south of England.
Fed by the pristine waters of the Hampshire Avon, Manningford is one of Wiltshire’s premier fisheries. It is set in the heart of the Pewsey Vale and consists of the 4.5 acre Manor lake and the 1.3 acre Squires lake. All contain a good head of Brown and Rainbow Trout stocked from around 2lb to high doubles. There are also 2 miles of single bank fishing on the famous River Avon. Manningford Trout Fishery is one of the most well-known fisheries in the South of England.
Meon Springs is one of Hampshire’s finest fly fisheries. Whether you’re a novice or expert angler, the lakes have been providing great sport for some 30 years. Two lakes put and take and then below these a string of lakes that are catch and release. All ways a warm welcome just off the South Down Way and with shepherd hut accommodation and glamping available.
Mill Farm Trout Lakes
Mill Farm Trout Lakes is a family run business, open all year round. They have two lakes set in 12 acres of purpose-built landscape lakes for fly fishing.
The first lake, Kingfisher, is catch & kill; it’s stocked daily with fish ranging from 2 lb to double figures. The second/bottom lake, Swallow lake, is catch & release only.
Facilities include car parking adjacent to the lakes, a tackle shop (stocked with fishing equipment and hot pies, drinks and confectionery), lakeside toilet with shelter, etc.
Moorhen Trout Fishery is an idyllic Hampshire stillwater, set amongst the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of the South Downs National Park. The crystal-clear water is full of lively and healthy rainbow trout ranging from 2.5lbs into double figures. With strategically placed swims and views across open countryside, Moorhen Trout Fishery is guaranteed to provide an excellent day’s fly fishing in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Woodington Lakes Trout Fishery
Woodington Lakes is a family-run trout fishery in the stunning, peaceful and secluded Hampshire countryside. There are three lakes, well stocked with (primarily) rainbow trout, as well as 430m of double bank fishing on the River Blackwater, which is a tributary of the world-renowned River Test.
